What a full summer it’s been. Starting in May with the 5th annual Flying Nest Dance Intensive at the Nest Dance Sanctuary in Jerome taught by Jayne Lee and myself. We had a great group of creative and open-hearted dancers from around the southwest. In June Human Nature collaborated with Verbobala a video/spoken word performance group based in Tucson and Mexico City (verbobala.com) We created OneWater, an exciting whirlpool of dance, original music, video projection, and poetic and scientific text concerning our local waters. OneWater was premiered at Prescott’s performing arts festival Tsunami on the Square (tsunamionthesquare.org) In July Human Nature performed in Monsoon Flood of Dance, a summer-long festival at the Coconino Center for the Arts in Flagstaff. We presented three pieces: Baggage Claim, Small Moment of Sky and Clayman Being. In August Human Nature collaborated with Tin House Experimental Dance with Joanna Rotkin and Breanna Rogers to present the full version of Small Moment of Sky at the Boulder International Fringe Festival see (boulderfringe.com) to read reviews of the shows. Small Moment won the encore performance by selling the most tickets in our venue. In between these times I’ve slipped some tango dancing in with Earl Duque, my partner, and continue to be challenged and humbled by this dance form. I’ve also spent time with family and reconnected with friends and students from way back and revisited some of my favorite spots in the Colorado high country . It’s been a rich summer of feeling my relations with many people and places and following the ever-spiraling artistic process. And now Human Nature is gearing up for our annual performance at Arcosanti in October, see the calendar page for more info.
