frozen prayer flag

All the creeks in Prescott are full and flowing a muddy brown richness. The heavy deep snow is melting and filling veins of the desert. Right across the street from where I live the creek is loud and I can hear its running music all night long. Many months of the year it is completely dry, though I’ve heard it used to run constantly. When it’s here I feel a wildness in the air and an excitement for the rush that comes from many places. Branches are floating back up into their vertical reach as the load melts more each day. Winter is flirting with spring.

I’m getting ready for spring quarter starting tomorrow at Prescott College and came across one of my favorite quotes by one of my dance ancestors…Imagine then a dancer who after long study, prayer, and inspiration, has attained such a degree of understanding that her body is simply the luminous manifestation of her soul: whose body dances in accordance with a music heard inwardly, in an expression of something out of another, more profounder world. This is the truly creative dancer, natural but not imitative, speaking in movement out of herself and out of something greater than all selves. – Isadora Duncan

studio full moon

what I like about tango….There’s this quality of hanging in space, not floating but hanging, like a hammock, suspended yet fully released into gravity. It’s my challenge to allow myself to be relaxed while being held, easier said than done.
